Religious Education
Kindergarten through Seventh Grade

Curriculum

We will continue to use Christ Our Life 2002 published by Loyola Press. Bishop Ricken and his staff have limited choices for religious education programs to two and Christ Our Life 2002 is one of them.

Christ Our Life 2002 is centered in Scripture and is content-rich. It shares our 2,000 year-old Catholic tradition in a contemporary format for today's youth.

Safety Policy

If you sign the "I wish to be called" space on the Registration Form, please call the Religious Eduction Office and talk with Rick Moser or Dorothy Bunn if your child is going to be absent from the Wednesday afternoon classes. You may call earlier than Wednesday if you know they will be missing. After 3:50 PM on Wednesday, any child (whose parent signed this space) who is absent and not excused will be considered missing. We will call the parents at home, work and on their cell phones. If we can't locate a parent, we will have to notify the police. Please assist us in our efforts to safeguard your children. Call when they are absent and provide us with all phone numbers and update us when the numbers change.

The school bus barn will be notified if we cancel any classes on Wednesday (to date, I have not cancelled a class in four years). Tell your children that if anyone other than the bus driver for bus #5 says classes are cancelled, the information is not to be trusted. However, if the weather is so bad that school closes earlier than normal, assume that our classes are cancelled. Fees

The fees for all students, Kindergarten through high school, are still only $30 per child or $60 for a family of two or more children. It is recommended that all students from sixth to twelfth grade have a copy of the Bible that can be written in and a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2nd Edition. These can be purchased at the school or the gift shop.

To Parents

Our main goal and greatest desire is to pass on a knowledge and a love of our Catholic faith to our children. We cannot do this without you. We are here to supplement your teaching and your living the faith at home. Parents are the first and most important teachers of the faith. Only through your example and teaching will the children truly come to a true knowledge and faith in Jesus and His Church. We hope you all have a good and grace filled year, and we look forward to working with you and your children. If you have any questions, please call Rick Moser. Thank you very much.

Discipline To enable our students to learn as much as possible, we will enforce a strict discipline policy. We will not tolerate any disruptions in the classrooms. If this does occur, the child will be sent to the office first, and if necessary, parents will be called. This policy will be enforced on the first day of classes. There is to be no food in the classrooms other than what teachers provide for snacks.

School bus from Middle School

There is a school-district bus that can drop students off on Monument Avenue in front of tour building on Wednesdays. Your child needs to take a bus to the Middle School and then catch Bus #5 (Route #5). The number is on the side of the bus right next to the door. Call Rick Moser if you need more information. Please read the Safety Policy above.

Sacraments

Certified Baptismal Certificates

Canon Law requires that we have a "certified" copy of your child's baptismal certificate if your child was not baptized at Saint Anthony's Church in Cody. To get a certified copy, you must call or write the church where your child was baptized and request one. Certified copies look like the original certificates however, they have a current date on the bottom. The date must be within six months of the requesting date. The church of record may mail the certificate to you or directly to St. Anthony's. If you can't find the phone number of your previous parish, we can help!

First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

Preparation for the reception of the sacrament of First Reconciliation begins in the first grade. The reception of First Reconciliation will be in the second grade prior to First Eucharist.

Saturday, March 29th @ 11:00 AM: First Eucharist practice for parents and students. Practice is in the Church.
Sunday, March 30th @ 11:00 AM: First Eucharist Mass.

Sexuality Education

As you all know, Sexuality Education is primarily the responsibility of Parents. Therefore, we have a couple of options for you to choose from. We strongly encourage Parent participation in the program. Please come with your child to watch the video portion, which is shown at the beginning of class. The videos take anywhere from 9 to 27 minutes, depending on which video is being shown. We do ask that the parents then leave after the video is shown so that the kids may participate in the discussion, which sometimes they won't if the parents are in the room. A home activity sheet will be sent home with each child; please use this to facilitate discussion at home.

If you wish, you may choose to exempt your child from the program and teach him/her sexuality at home. If you choose this option, please call the religious education office so your child will be excused. If you wish to look at our program and wish to use it at home, arrangements can be made.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Rick Moser at 587-2567.

Catholic Youth Social Activities

St. Anthony's has a comprehensive Youth Program. This program includes kindergarten through high school. Our program includes catechesis, socialization, and service, both to the parish and to the community. We will have Eucharistic retreats, vocation retreats, chastity retreats and will attend diocesan youth functions. Our program is predicated on the idea that we will have total family involvement in all aspects of the program and not just in catechesis.
